Job Description:
We are currently hiring casual, part-time and full-time residential child and youth support workers at various locations in Chilliwack, B.C.

We are also offering staffed respite care for individuals with respite needs in a THFSS funded resource. We will be recruiting staff as per the information on this site.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a very nice home environment while supporting children and youth one-on-one.

Our staff assists the children and youth in care with a variety of tasks while coaching and encouraging them to gain new life-skills to help them succeed in life. Meals, training and certification as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) is included. Our child and youth workers work closely with other team members, under the supervision of a skilled supervisor, along with the extensive training provided to assist in providing effective supports while using the best tools.

Our agency provides competitive wages, a benefits package, including coverage for medical/dental for permanent employees after the first 90 days. All positions are provided with meals while supporting the individuals and some overnight shifts are "sleep-overs" with well-appointed sleeping quarters. A vehicle and/or mileage allowance and business insurance reimbursement is covered for any travel provided.

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to work effectively as a team, have strong intervention skills, and be able to interact positively with children and youth. Applicants should have experience or background in child/youth care, and the willingness to continue to learn in this challenging but exceptionally rewarding field.
On the job mentoring, training and accreditation is provided for those entering the field as a new support worker.

Job Duties include:

  • Providing a safe, nurturing, and supportive living environment for children/youth with developmental delays and/or effects of trauma of related to abuse/neglect.

  • Providing effective interventions according to organizational policy.

  • Supervise children/youth on outings and in community.

  • Providing assistance with personal care/hygiene, as needed.

  • Completing written and verbal reports (when needed) to the manager and/or funding government agency.

  • Working effectively as part of a team, under the direction of a qualified supervisor.

  • Performing light housekeeping, meal preparation, and transportation of clients.

 
Mandatory Requirements:

  • Criminal Record Check for Vulnerable Sector (submitted by agency).

  • First Aid Certification (can be attained during training).

  • CPI certification (provided - we will train).

  • Food Safe (can be attained during training).

  • Valid BC driver’s license w/reliable vehicle.

 
Required and preferred education and experience:

  • Post-Secondary education in a related field, related certifications.

  • Residential experience with children/youth with special needs or trauma-related care or a combination of training and experience.

  • Experience with supporting individuals with diverse cultural backgrounds.

 
Shifts:

  • All shifts are 8 hours, in various locations around Chilliwack, B.C.

Salary:
From $23.00 per hour.
